I posted this question on another thread but maybe it is too gruesome and will be removed by a mod. My parents remember when there were serial killers walking around LA [like the Night Stalker]. People were afraid to go outside at night but the Night Stalker broke into houses and raped & killed people for the hell of it. Richard Ramirez was a satanist & is still in prison even though he was suppose to get the death penalty.

I think Los Angeles has had some famous murderers. Did anyone live in LA when the Night Stalker or the Zodiac killer or Hillside strangers were around?

I remember the night stalker. I also remember what happened when he got caught. The cops should have taken about 10 more minutes showing up.

Zodiac operated in the Bay Area, though it seems there is at least one case in which Zodiac was an unconfirmed suspect, in Riverside.

There still is an active serial killer in the area. The Grim Sleeper is a black man(identified by witnesses and a lone survivor) targeting black women and has been active for nearly 25 years in LA. I seem to recall that most of the women were hookers.

Lol, I remember that as well; your right, about 10 more minutes and the tax payers would have saved a bunch of money. He was happy to see the police dept when they showed up.

Yeah, Ramirez was a real crazy dude. There's an entire documentary on him. Oddly, he hardly took anything from his victims but cut a pentagram into their bodies & wrote praises to Satan in their blood on the walls. What would make a person do such a thing? Do you think it was drugs?

I remember the Night Stalker and when he was caught. I also read the book.

Amazon.com: The Night Stalker: The Life and Crimes of Richard Ramirez (9780786003792): Philip Carlo: Books

Another very interesting book is the Hillside Stanglers, which I also read:

Amazon.com: The Hillside Stranglers (9780786711581): Darcy O'Brien: Books

Here's one of my favorites:

Amazon.com: My Dark Places (9780679762058): James Ellroy: Books

Of course the classic is

Amazon.com: Helter Skelter: The True Story Of The Manson Murders (9780553574357): Vincent Bugliosi, Curt Gentry: Books

and

Amazon.com: The Black Dahlia (9780446674362): James Ellroy: Books

A lot of women were mesmerized with him, found him attractive in a dark way. He ended up marrying some chick while he was in prison. I wonder what he looks like now.

He turns 50 in five days. (Feb 29, 1960)

Not only do I remember the night stalker from my childhood, but later on when I was a working adult, I worked with a gentleman by the name of Richard Ramirez. Poor fella.

Also knew a guy whose name was Ken Bianchi, the infamous half of the Hillside strangler duo.

My mother said that LA was completely terrorized & even if it was hot that people closed up their houses at night anyway. Ramirez just seemed to pick houses at random & even murdered a few people when visiting San Francisco. Ramirez seemed to like taunting the man while he would rape the wife & then would kill both of them. Evidently he would let kids go but would slap them around also. What a brute!
