Just wondering what are some of the best options are for catching a sporting event in Tucson? There is the University of Arizona, but are there also minor league or local baseball, hockey, soccer or basketball teams, etc.? Are there any golf chamionships in Tucson? What about motorsports - NASCAR, offroad racing, etc.? Rodeo? I'm not a fan of all sports, but it would be nice to know what the Tucson area offers for sporting events.

Thanks!

As you mentioned UofA. Everyone knows about their basketball program but they have numerous National Championships in other sports, seven I believe in Womens Softball, 3 in baseball, womens golf, mens golf etc. so an all around very good sports program. Still waiting on football!

March Madness - Between UofA here and ASU in Tempe, we often get some of the early
round tournament games. Make for a great day to take off work, see 4 games in one day in the opening 2 days!

Golf, PGA Accenture Match Play Championship held at the Ritz Carlton every February.

Rodeo - February also, we close the schools on rodeo week if that gives you an idea of how big it is here!

Pro Hockey, Baseball, Football, Basketball, you have to go to Phoenix for that. Not a bad drive, depening on where you live in Tucson and which venue you are going to on Phoenix, you can figure anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 hours drive time each way. If you go to a Cardinals game you will feel right at home. Lots of Packer fans in the area so bring your CheeseHead!.

Nascar, West Phoenix at the old PIR track. Figure 2 hours plus drive time on a regular day. On race day, double it at least. If you try to leave as soon as the race is over it is a VERY slow process.

If you happen to play golf, you will think you have died and gone to heaven. Lots of options at every price level from local county/city courses to top of the line private clubs. Though it is hot in the summer it is a great time to play, rates are down, some of the private clubs open for public play, and most the time you can finish a round in 4 hours.

As usual, Rick has the comprehensive reply. I would just add that season tickets for UofA football are quite reasonably priced and it's easy to get there. For most games you can park at the Tucson Mall and take a bus right to the stadium entrance. Also, how many places can you watch football in your shorts and sandals? Often possible in Tucson.

There is a team called the Tucson Toros which plays in the independent Golden Baseball League. The competition is not as good as AAA which used to be here in the form of the Tucson Sidewinders, but it is still fun.
