Do you need a passport to go to Nogales, or will your US driver's license do? I went several years ago and didn't need one, but wonder if that has changed.

Yes, a passport is required if you will be returning to the USA. Mexico doesn't require one to enter most of the time, but they can. The US can't forbid you to reenter without one, but they will ruin your day before they let you back in.

Unless you are connected where the people there know you well enough, I find that very hard to believe as passports and passport cards became the only accepted form of ID on June 1, 2009. I lived in Yuma off an on until 2011 and used to go to Algodones all the time for the good food, dirt cheap prescriptions and maybe a quick dental checkup if it's been a while. I always needed my passport.

I said that I DID need my passport....you and I are in agreement. By all means, make sure you have your passport with you when going to Mexico - especially to get back to US soil.

Just like my many trips to Tijuana, I enjoy going there because you never have to make a reservation for a motel, always a wide choice of accomodations.

Always plenty of choices in the red-light district, can walk into a Doctor's or Dentist's office without an appointment. I love that! And let's not forget the open-air swap meets in the border towns where I can stock up on $1 CD's and DVD's!

Being that Nogales is 10-15 degrees cooler there in summer, I look forward to my cool-off trips there with some cold Tecate and some hot latin music emanating fromt the jukebox.

I will never disappoint our Founding Fathers who coined the phrase for this country: Home of the Brave!
I too plan to retire to Tucson soon and one of its attractions is its proximity to Mexico. I like the food, the culture, and the artesanía. And the less expensive prescription medicines, etc. I have always enjoyed sojourns into Mexico. The ability to converse in Spanish certainly helps. I have been to Baja Calif many times and have not yet had any problems although things have gotten a lot worse since I was last in Mexico about five years ago. I am currently in Panama which has no culture at all.
