I got a good job offer and will be moving to there in a month from Nashville TN and was wondering what part of Tuscon should I move to. My wife and three year old daughter are looking for a safe clean part of town that is near your typical shopping centers, restaurants, etc. I heard that either Broadway/Pantano or Flowing Wells are nice areas? Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Those are two totally different areas, and a fairly good distance apart. There are lots of great areas to live in. What part of town will you be working in? Geographically, Tucson is a large area. Commutes can be a real headache if you live and work in opposite areas. Knowing your work location will help posters with ideas.

Who told you Flowing Wells was a nice area? It's very low-end. Working-class houses, but mostly trailer parks and crummy apartment complexes. It's in its own school district though, which may be a plus.

I would agree that Flowing Wells is, overall, a lower-middle-class neighborhood, but please remember everyone can't be rich . The school district has much to recommend it. The schools have first-rate teachers (some of whom are nationally award-winning), an excellent administration, and outstanding extracurricular activities for the kids. Experienced teachers fight to get jobs at Flowing Wells schools, mainly because of the reputation it has for cooperation between admin and staff. I know some kids who have attended FW for their entire educations and I've been amazed at some of the activities they've participated in. A weekend of marine study at Catalina Island, anyone? I saw at play at their middle school last year that was great and afterward chatted with another audience member who happened to be on the board of Pima County Community College. He said he thought FW's music and theater classes and performances were superior to those at his college. In addition to cultural activities they have sports programs, too.

Probably not most of the district's students.
Economic demographics often come out in the school district's reduced lunch program and, at Flowing Wells High School, 48% of students are eligible. That compared with 18% at Marana High School.
Poor <> bad area though. I know that. But, when looking at Tucson as a whole, I can think of many, many, many areas that I would recommend over Flowing Wells. I mean, it's just not the nicest part of town.

It's not about being rich. It just looks trashy. People can be poor, but clean, and they can take care of and pride in their homes.

The comments made by Coatimundi about Flowing Wells are accurate. I work in the neighborhood but wouldn't live there. If you can afford to live elsewhere - please do. Flowing Wells is not a great place to live. If you are working in that area, you could consider Oro Valley. It's NW of Tucson. It has better quality housing, less crime and a highly ranked school district. However, it does cost more so your budget may decide where you end up.
