When you get right up against the mountains, you won't get as much wind unless you're exposed (e.g. - have a nice view). The canyons are generally quiet.

But it's always windier when it's hot. This time of year is bad for it. If you want to do anything outdoors, you have to do it before about 10am, not only because of the heat, but also because it gets very, very windy.

It isn't as bad as the Front Range though, no. Probably about the same as Albuquerque though.
I hate to be such a newbie what is considered the "Front Range"? I'm very new and I don't know the area.

The Front Range is in Colorado. It's the area east of the Rocky Mountains from Denver south to Colorado Springs. It could be broadened, though, to include all of the cities on the Front Range of the Rockies from Ft. Collins south to Trinidad. Albuquerque has winds, as well, even though it's on the west side of the Sandias. Wind just seems to roar down from the mountains, no matter whether you're east or west of them. But, it's not as windy as Altus, OK. That is the windiest place I've ever been (okay, maybe Chicago) and their dust is so much worse than ours.
