Hi all -- My brother passed away unexpectedly just over a week ago. He was always a big train buff and in going through his things and mail I came across a lovely postcard from "ARG" hoping all was well and they'd been missing him at the meetings. It had only been mailed about a month ago and they genuinely seemed concerned about his well being.

There's no address or phone number and I'm thinking ARG stands for Arizona Railroad Group but I can't find a local club with that name. My brain is still wacky from everything so maybe I've got it wrong.

I'd like to let them know what's happened.

Anybody got any ideas on what train club this might be if it's not AZ Railroad Group?

It looks like it could also be A.R.A. or G.R.G. or A.R.G. Too bad they didn't use block lettering!

Thanks for the responses. It's definitely a train group. That's what he was into and the postcard front shows a train.

The ARG associated with Benson appears more a business than a local club. Plus he was very limited in being able to travel so it would have to have been located in Tucson.

This is rather a bummer. Nothing I've searched for seems to come up with anything.

Maybe someone will come along yet!? In the meantime, thanks for the help!

lilygee, you should reach out to the group in Benson and ask for assistance. Someone there may be able to direct you in the right direction?

looks like ARA or GRG to me since the first and last letters appear to be the same, but I know some people will write different letters the same.....

gee, curious what this ends up being....would be good to let the group know about your brother.....

The letters look like Tucson A.R.A., but the postmark looks like IA (Iowa?). Is there anything else on the card that could help identify the group? What does the train picture look like? Steam engine? Amtrak? Passenger? Freight? Any of that might help. There doesn't seem to be an Arizona Railroad Association, or a Arizona Raildroad Group.

The zip code is from Masonville, IA. That is a very small town. You might want to forward a copy of the postcard to the Postmaster. I bet he/she may have an idea of who may have sent it or what group it is. Before my grandmother passed away, I contacted the Postmaster in her very small IA town and he knew her and her address. I was sending her a surprise and didn't want to ask her directly for her address. According to the Postmaster, if the town is small, everyone knows each other.

OMGosh you guys would make good detectives! Sadly you're on the wrong track (pun intended :-) ).

This is a generic postcard and the company that printed it was using their name and addy in teeny weenie writing as the separator bar between the message and address spaces. It was posted from Tucson in June.

I've tried searching using the other letters to no avail.

I do thank everybody for their assistance! Maybe somebody will stop in who knows the answer.
