Hi Folks! My husband and I are moving out from Vermont to Tucson and are going to have to get an apartment without checking it out first (I know not a great idea but that's how it's going to have to be). I'm looking at two locations which are in quite different areas of the city. One is 550 Camino Seco (Crown Villas apartments) and the other is 2510 North Winstel Boulevard (Georgetown apartments). Does anyone have any feedback on those neighborhoods, or on the apartment complexes themselves??

Thanks!
~Sarah

Camino Seco is what I consider far eastside. More open space out there but fewer amenities.

North Winstel is midtown, closer to the university and downtown.

I am not sure about the specifics of the neighborhood or the complexes. Going just one block in Tucson can feel like a totally different neighborhood.

The relevant question is where will you work to consider commutes.

550 Camino Seco is probably not a good option. We had the misfortune of living there temporarily in 2001 (only complex on the East side which would do month to month at the time) and it was not a good experience. I know that complex has changed management (and name) since then, but I drive by it often and it doesn't look very well kept. We had a lot of problems with noisy, potentially drug dealing (lots of coming and going, all hours, stuff exchanging hands) neighbors. It was a very bad experience for us.

What are your parameters given that you don't seem to have a specific target neighborhood? Maybe someone could make a good suggestion.

Acacia Hills on Golf Links seems nice. I own a home in the neighborhood to the East of there and it is really quiet and safe. Also when I drive by it they often have signs with very reasonable rates. Not sure specifically but usually has around 400 or 500 per month. This area is 10 minutes from the National Park which is very nice. Hope that helps.

Why only these two choices?

I wouldn't live in either complex. Older, not well maintained complexes, that are very transient.

Frankly, I think that there are so many better deals renting out casitas. I am in a stand alone in a good neighborhood for $395 a month. No footsteps to hear, no loud college kids, etc. Craigslist.
