Ok, so we are looking to do a trail ride here soon. We are (well Helena anyway...) are experienced riders and want to do a trail ride. Ideally not a guided trail ride (point us to the trail and say come back in 4 hours) but, a guided trail ride would be ok as long as we are not riding "trail horses" (you know the ones that know the trail blindfolded so to speak).

Anyone have recommendations?

Thanks

Pantano Stables' website says they have "experienced rider packages" with stable approval... I don't know if that means that you don't have a guide, but that would be my guess. Very few places with horse rentals allow unguided rides any more. Looks like they have some nice guided rides, too, though.

You will find places in the Tucson area if you Google them (I have in the past)., espeically north around Oro Valley etc.

As a horse person myself, I highly doubt you will find anyone who points you to the trail and says come back in 4 hours. Number one, the liability would be astronomical and number 2 most people would not trust their horses with people they don't know well. There are some people who would take the horses out and run them into the ground and they ruin it for the sensible people who care about the horses and are careful enough to avoid accidents etc.

For most of them, 'stable approval' means you have been through their training program and they have observed you for a number of weeks.

Default Horses....

Well we both have been talking riding lessons and are now looking for 2 new forever friends. Any one know of any horses for sale to a great home? Not looking for anything special like jumpers or such, just a good horse for trail riding... and for beginners!

There's a few horses hanging out at a stable along the Rillito Trail near Shannon Road, Mike.

Not sure of their status but I see them frequently down in the Rillito Riverbed while I'm biking on the trail.
