never heard of austins, but in a similar vein there was mercurys deli near the UA. they opened up a second location on the east side, but it never sold enough to keep it open, and eventually even the one near the UA closed its doors.

I never made it into Austin's (I hadn't even heard of it before they moved), but I just never quite managed to. If I recall correctly they didn't even want to move, but some issue with their old location forced them to.

Even though I never made it there to eat, I thought it was a real shame when it closed. We now have another chain restaurant in its place.

after they moved, I went to the new Austin's location out E Broadway and it certainly didn't have the same atmosphere as the old one, so never went back...the original location had that fantastic and authentic 50s vibe that was part of the reason to go....as Prodigal said, I think they had to move from Broadway Village, not wanted to move.....

I don't live in Tucson, but every time I drive through there, I stop at La Parrilla Suiza on Oracle Blvd. They make the best enchilada style chimichangas ever!

Mandarin Grill at 505 E. Grant (1st & Grant) is the best place for Chinese bar none. I suggest the Imperial Chicken and hot and sour soup. They're lunch specials are really great deals and huge servings. Welcome to the Mandarin Grill!

El Molinito on Ina & Thornydale for fantastic Mexican food. I tried their other locations and wasn't happy. The Ina & Thornydale always seemed consistantly good. I would, however, stay far away from their Pina Colada drink. It was horrible.
EL MOLINITO Best Mexican Restaurants Tucson Arizona

Steak places are hit and miss. I used to like Pinnacle Peak, but now I reserve it for taking out of town friends for the cheeze factor. Their prices went up drastically over the years. El Corral is the same.

For prime rib, I recommend Taste of Texas (Thornydale & Cortaro). Much better than El Corral. BTW, it's the only cut that I like there. The t-bone wasn't that great.

For Italian: Caruso's Caruso's Italian Restaurant, Tucson AZ
The Seafood-Pasta Delight! is my favorite.

Oh, for Pizza: Zachery's Pizza (call ahead, trust me), Brooklyn Pizza Company, and Mama's Pizza are the 3 best places I like.

Yes, their enchilada sauce is sublime. And my wife loves the charro beans. I always order the cheese enchiladas with carne asada tacos and refried beans (the No. 14). Yummy.

I wish I could agree, but when I was back in Tucson in September I went there, the food was sub-par, and the "service" was nonexistent. Maybe an off night, but not like they were when I lived in Tucson.

Vivace's used to be good back when they were at Swan and Grant, but the last time we were there at their new location it was a great disappointment. Pastiche, however, was excellent, consistent since the late 90s when they first opened.

Is the Zachery's Pizza the same as Zack's by the UofA on 6th? Zack's was a great place for pizza and a non-mass-produced beer. I heard they closed.

Zachery's is still there on 6th st. They did move from their original location, but just across the street.

I know this is kind of a late post, but there is a Food Truck Roundup tonight 6-27-12 at Sportsmans on Costco Dr tonight in Marana. Starts at 5pm till about 8pm. My favorite Fatdogs Real Mexican Hot Dogs and Jamies Bitchen Kitchen will be there along with others. If you are out in the NW Tucson area come on out and support your local entrepreneurs.
