It has been stated that several Tucson area residents prefer to fly out of Phoenix Sky Harbor instead of Tucson International due to greater flight options and supposedly lower fares. So I decided to make a poll to see what airport the Tucson area residents here prefer to use.

Tucson all the way. After you factor in travel time, parking fees and the risk of an accident closing I-10 I haven't flown out of Phoenix in over 10 years.

Tucson's airport is FABULOUS - clean, quiet, uncrowded and new. Have only flew in and out of there once - but wow! What a pleasant experience for a change.
No contest in my opinion.

Tucson! I won't drive north unless it will save me at least $300.

I forgot the uncrowded part - I have dropped people off 45 minutes before their flight and they were able to make it through security and have time to sit around a little before boarding their flights. Not recommended, but at least it is possible.

Yeah, Tucson airport is pretty much stress free. Kind'a reminds me of the old days of travel - back before it became such a hassle.

I fly out of Sky Harbor if it will save me money or get me on a direct flight. I send my mother to Chicago twice a year but I always have her go out of Tucson. She's disabled and the quiet airport works better for her circumstance, not to mention American has a direct flight to O'Hare where my brother can pick her up without a problem.

I forgot to mention, at least from here in Detroit. Prices are usually always cheaper to go to Tucson!

Well my experience both when I was a non-resident and as a resident are: First Before I moved here I would fly into Phoenix, after moving here I fly out of Tucson.

Tucson:
Pros:

Smaller airport/smaller security lines.
Easier to get to and get out of
Rental cars are significantly less (important if you are visiting)

Cons:
There are fewer choices for flights (I would fly non-stop to NH from Phoenix)
Phoenix is doing runway construction now so there are a lot of delayed flights. (I recently had difficulty because of this)

Phoenix:

pros:
Greater number of flight options
Cheaper flights (probably because of more availability and access to other airports)
fewer delayed flights
More airline options

Cons:
Long ride to airport from Tucson
Higher rental car costs (applicable to visitor), I would rent in Phoenix and trade in Tucson for lower price
Longer security lines
Full Body scanners

Just some thoughts. I have used both and would happily use either. There is a shuttle from Tucson to Phoenix for like $40. As a visitor I would seriously consider the rental car costs. On one trip here I saved $1,000 on rental car costs by taking the shuttle into Tucson and renting the car here.
