Hi. I was driving through Tucson the other day and made a right turn on red only to notice, half way through the turn, the sign saying no turn on red! I suspect one of those infernal traffic cameras nailed me.

Anyone have any experience with dealing with such things?

Thanks,

Rich

Did you see a bright flash go off? It's hard to miss if it did. Some people pay them, some people ignore them, I think there are a couple of threads going on this topic somewhere. If you didn't see a bright flash I wouldn't worry about it. Curious, what intersection were you at?

Which intersection, Rich?

The cameras are not everywhere and as Rick already posted, you should have noticed a "flash" if you were caught.

There's no camera there, but that intersection is NO TURN ON RED (when children are present). You will find those signs at a lot of intersections; so long as there aren't pedestrians in or around the cross-walks, you are fine. If you are at a camera intersection, just make sure you come to a complete stop before the intersection line (the cross-walk is irrelevant to the cameras).

usually the no turn on red intersections don't take pictures unless it's one that has the red light camera. then maybe, but you would have seen a flash.

I got caught by surprise at one of those no right turn on red intersections yesterday, and didn't see the sign until I was already turning.

It's going to take a while to get used to driving in Tucson. The rules are so different here! A biggie for me is the very long turn lane with a very short entry point, where the solid line starts long before you can even read the street name and by the time you get close enough to read the street sign you can no longer enter the turn lane without breaking the law and crossing the solid white line. What's up with that? They really need to place an additional street name sign at the start of the turn lane. Otherwise the only people who can get in the turn lane without breaking the law and going over the solid line are people who already know what street it is without having to look at the sign. Where I moved from, the solid line didn't start until closer to the intersection, giving you a chance to read the street name so you can see if that's the street you need.

I haven't seen any intersection cameras in the City limits flash for a long time. I mostly cross through intersections on the northeast side. Are they currently in operation?

Try looking thru these threads as it's been discussed ad nauseum. You will get various opinions, but it's just not worth it.
