Hello!
I will be moving to Tucson soon and am looking at apartments close to where I will be working at the US Passport agency. It looks like there a quite a few apartment complexes along E. Speedway.

I'm a single women in her late thirties. My needs are flexible, but I don't want a university/party place. All I really need, at this point, is convenience and peace.

What are your feelings about the apartment living in this area? Any info/opinions will be welcome.
Thanks!!

This is probably going to be the least helpful reply that you get, but I'll do my best. I live on East Broadway, so just south of Speedway. We just moved here 4 months ago from Illinois and pretty much rented our place sight-unseen. So far, we really like it. We were previously living in a downtown loft in a mid-sized college town, so this is a bit different. Very commercial over here, but convenient and it feels safe so far. We live in Claremont Villas and are very pleased with our choice. It's gated and the grounds are kept up very well. The residents seem to range from 20 to 120 but so far everyone has either been very friendly or just kept to themselves. We haven't had any issues with bad neighbors. As far as the area, pretty much everything you need as far as convenience is over here. Traffic here is much busier than what I'm used to in the Midwest, but this side of town is a lot less stressful than what we experienced when we ventured toward downtown or even Tucson Mall a couple of times. Several grocery stores, K-mart, a small-ish wal-mart, TONS of restaurants, etc. I think it's either on Pantano or Kolb that we pass several decent looking apartment complexes when we're connecting to East Speedway.

I am speaking from the experience of many years ago, but if you want a reasonably priced apartment with the lowest possible percentage of students, search on the east and south sides of Tucson. I no longer live in Tucson but have been back in recent years and the east side I believe is still the nicest part of town.

Thanks for your input! I will definitely look at apartments along East Broadway, too. I'll be doing the same thing as you, holly 31mills, taking a place sight unseen. So I want to do lots of internet research first.

East Broadway to the passport center is going to be a bit of a drive - you're looking at a 20 to 30 minute drive to the office (distance wise, it's not that far...just tons of traffic signals / traffic enforcement cameras are along the way). There's several decent looking apartments on Speedway east of Kolb Road, all the way to intersection of Speedway and Pantano (more apartments South bound on Pantano). Not to steer you in any particular location, but you may want to use this crime map from the local newspaper as a guide to help inform you of some problem areas of the city. That's not a very helpful map....It doesn't have enough information to be really helpful.

Here's some ones with more data...

Tucson, AZ Crime Map - Showing Crimes in Tucson - Crime Statistics, Alerts and Reports - Crime Stops Here

And heres the TPD website to look for specifics...
