I'd appreciate any guidance as to how I can find a furnished [it can be very simply furnished, as long as it's clean, has enough furniture and kitchen/linen goods to make it livable, and is in a safe neighborhood] rental from mid-May through the end of August, 2013. Green Valley is my first choice and greater Tucson, my 2nd. The reason I need a furnished rental is that it'll take 2-3 months for my home's contents to arrive from Melbourne. Once I'm living in GV or Tucson, I'll find a permanent place and be ready to move into it when my short-term lease on the furnished rental ends.

I'm a single, mid-50s, female professional. I'm currently finishing up a job in Victoria, Australia where I've been living for the past year. I was living in the SF Bay area before I moved to AU. However, I've decided I'd much rather live the rest of my life in wonderfully sunny and warm/HOT southern AZ. Green Valley especially sounds like a place I'd really like, from everything I've read about it on this website's forums, thanks to all of its great contributors.

My preference is to live in GV for a few months to "feel" if it's actually where I want to live permanently. However, depending on where I can find a rental, [as described above], I'm willing to live in either city, GV or Tucson. My only special need is to be able to have my 6 lb neutered, lovable chihuahua, Gucci Guy, live with me. He's extremely well trained b/c I got him certified as a "medical need" service dog so that he wouldn't have to spend a month in quarantine when he and I moved over here.

I've heard that some snowbird's who have 2nd residences in GV and Tucson rent them during the months when they're not using them ie: May/June to September/October. I have no idea how or where to find out about these rentals or any other furnished rentals in GV or greater Tucson. Since I'd like to set up the rental from over here, I don't trust finding one thru the local newspapers, unless someone replies here telling me about a trustworthy source for GV/Tucson furnished short-term rentals. Any ideas, suggestions, or guidance will be much appreciated! Thanks!

Before we moved down here in our motorhome, we visited Tucson at least once a year for the past 5 years. Typically we used VRBO.COM (Vacation Rental By Owner) to find a furnished place to stay and we've been quite happy with the places we stayed at. Better yet - the summer season is low season here so rates are way lower than during the winter (note that most places have lower weekly or monthly rates as well as higher daily rates). Have also used this approach for Hawaii and similar approach for the Cook Islands.

Long Realty has a rental division specifically for the Green Valley/Sahuarita area. Here is their link.

Home Away.com is a great side to, have used them a few times for vacations. Often you can talk the price down a little.
Homes are al furnitured, and go from a few hundred a month to a one year income for the night.....

Thanks very much to all 3 of you for providing the contact info to the 3 diff resources you've used to find a rental. I'm going to contact all of them to see what's available. Great to hear that summer time has lower rates!

Lower rates are in summer. We have a rental in the GV/S'rita area. (next to Frys) it's gated and totally furnished. Also, all clubhouse amenities like pool, gym and courts are included. We have wifi, and cable. Let us know if anybody is interested and good luck with finding a place to live. You will enjoy the area.
