I am an ex-New Yorker currently living in Utah. Looking for suggestions on neighborhoods to purchase a home in the Tuscon area . It's just me and my wife ( we are both 49 years old ) and our 19 year old daughter, Who is a college student looking to become a Registered Nurse. She'll be living with us and attending school.

We currently own a home in Utah and will be putting it up for sale shortly. We are looking for a single family home at least 2 bedrooms/2 baths. One level newer home preferred. We have a couple of dogs so a nice fenced yard is required.

I am a retired NYC employee and my wife is lucky enough to be able to work from home so we are flexible as far as location. One of the main reasons for the move is my Retirement Health insurance plan has participating providers in Tuscon so we can't be too far from there.

Looking for a nice quiet, safe, Suburban area, with nice well-kept homes ( who isn't looking for that right ) Would like to be close by to shopping, restaurants and other amenities.

We all like to walk, hike and hang out in the outdoors however, we do spend a lot of time at home so we are looking for a nice comfortable home that we enjoy spending time at. We don't want to spend more than $200,000

Any other advice on moving to the area would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Jim

Sounds like you are a perfect candidate for the area along Oracle Road (from Ina Road North but not too far North) in Oro Valley, Jimbo.

WELCOME and Good Luck

I think you may be right. I was researching that area tonight. Looks to be what I am looking for but I'll probably be at the top end of my price range.

Any other suggestions?

Cannot think of any right now but I'll keep trying, Jimbo.

Back in the late 90's, I was in the same quandary with "In-Town Convenience" vs "Suburban Space" (both inside and out). The "convenience" won out as I chose a relatively small Patio Home (about 1400 sq ft with 3 Bedrooms and 2 Baths) very close to River Road and Stone Avenue.

No place and/or location is going to be perfect, however, after almost 15 years, I still feel I made the best decision.

Thanks Bummer. Funny you mentioned Patio homes, my wife just mentioned that we should look into them. If you dont mind me asking What is the current price range and do they have a decent yard for our dogs?

Lots of dogs, both two and four legged , in my neighborhood, Jimbo . . . however, I don't own one primarily because I feel dogs are entitled to running space.

As for the Price Range . . . no Real Estate Agent here but I believe the current prices range from the very low $100k's up to about $150k depending on the size and condition. Some of the units in the area have larger yards, however, they are still Patio Homes.

As far as I'm concerned, there's plenty of outdoor space without the "ugh" yard work, etc.

First, it's Tucson, not Tuscon.

Second, I'd agree with Bummer that you're probably wanting to look somewhere in the Oracle Rd. area in or around Orange Grove Rd. There, you'll have the nicer homes (though not huge) and still have access to civilization.
