Check out Rancho Sahuarita or Sahuarita Highlands neighborhoods. Both have websites and are very family friendly. Seems to meet all of your criteria and is less than 20min to the airport. Vail isn't too far from there either. Great hiking/greenery nearby at Madera Canyon. Good luck!

Also, Rancho Sahuarita has its own gym. It is pretty decent and covered by your HOA dues.

The lake at Rancho Sahuarita is also something that makes people from the East Coast, who are uncomfortable with moving to the desert, feel more at home. I agree with jksn25 that the community has a lot of amenities for a relatively low HOA. And housing prices there are still a bargain thanks to the beating that community took when prices adjusted.

east coast waters are not as chemical blue-green like this lake is. was just at this lake on Sunday, not sure i would let my dog get too close. there is a fishing schedule posted

I'm sure you are all moved and settled by now and if you still read City-a Data, I would love to year what you learned. We are planning to relocate from MA also (though we are originally Seattle people) and had concerns about the schools. Our older two have graduated, but we have a youngest in 8th and though we were originally going to wait, we are not getting any younger and want out of the Boston area. We are open to private school, but that can be pricey considering we still have one in college. So far, the best public high school I have found is University which has an admissions criteria. I'm not worried about our daughter's ability to get in, but we are already past application deadline for freshman year and I understand spots in the older grade only open up when someone leaves. So we are looking to be near a good high school. Catalina Foothills High is so far the only one I found that even remotely compares to our local public high school. Not sure about the rest of the school district (middle, elementary) since it doesn't affect us, but I suspect it's pretty good.

Agreed. It seemed to me that Rancho Sahuarita was an effort to create a Green Valley for a mixed age community. I spent a lot of time in the area and in the parks and would agree with most that it is family friendly. What I would say is the area is about as green as you will find in the desert. It is not green in the traditional sense.
