Hi all,

I am thinking of relocating to Tucson next year, but am afraid that I won't qualify to get into any nice apartment complexes due to a bad credit score. Can any one offer any advice on how to proceed? Thanks in advance.

A nice apartment complex is likely to have fairly strict rules about credit. Obviously a low credit score is not a good sign for a landlord that the person looking to rent pays their bills. You could just begin contacting perspective apartments letting them know your situation and be able to show(and prove) that whatever affected your credit is in the past, but if any of your credit issues are due from you dodging rent or skipping out of an apartment you will likely not be successful. If you have had no history of being a bad tenant and are able to do so look for a nicer apartment with shorter lease terms, even if more expensive per month, and save the money to pay upfront for a three or six month lease.

The other option is to skip the apartment and see if you can lease something from a private party who might be more accepting of your situation.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I've been at my current residence for 12 years so I'm hoping that will be taken into consideration. I'm also going to work really hard this year to get my credit cleaned up. Cross your fingers for me

Thanks again!!
