I will second the Grant Road comment. Last spring my wife and I stayed in Tucson for a week. I used Grant to get from freeway to hotel only once. No other roads we traveled were pothole noteworthy, nothing worse than southern Calif.

Tucson has some HORRIBLE roads. Definitely the worst roads in the entire state. Grant is horrible, as are sections of Broadway, Speedway, and 6th St. / St. Mary's.

You've been gone a year. A lot has changed.

I am curious about what part of town you live in, actinic, and what roads you travel. While I agree with the other posters here who say that it's not so bad, Grant Road aside, I'd like to hear which roads in particular you are commenting about.

Many many many side streets and not necessarily the main ones. I cycle all over this town and there's roads which aren't just simply bad but are in jeopardy of total compromise. 1st Ave to the west, Wilmot to the east, Ft Lowell south to 22nd St primarily but other areas here and there also.

It's pretty bad in Tucson if the comparisons/justifications involve the Midwest/Northeast, lol, seeing as Tucson does not experience the freezing temperatures that make potholes in the Midwest/Northeast inevitable.

you should try driving on some of the smaller hiways in Wyoming. You might get 50 feet of nice smooth asphalt and then 20 miles of jar wrenching bumps every 10 feet. At 65 miles and hour, thats a lot of bumps in the road, but like anywhere else you learn to navigate enough to make ride half smooth.

I've been to Rochester. Recently. Tucson is worse. When were you in Tucson? Never seen one post from you commenting about it.

It simply isn't worse. There are areas that are bad, but they are the minority ... I also ride my bike all around town and used to ride my bike all around Pittsburgh, PA and let me tell you that there is simply no comparison. Tucson's roads could be considered near perfect in comparison! Even the infamous stretches of Grant Road would be considered "okay" or "average" by folk living in some mid-atlantic and northeast cities!
