I came of age in Tucson (by that I mean from a teenager to an adult) and man oh man was Tucson a place for that!

Tucson is the place that had the most impact on me personally, and I didn't get there until I was almost 30. Plus I have lived a dozen places or so; Tucson just has some kind of magic for me.

It is a very magical place. I often hear it described that way. It is certainly that way for me. I still remember the first time I laid eyes on it 7 years ago. I felt like I had landed on the moon after a lifetime on the east coast.

RobertaWa, I had such a horrible feeling the day we moved away. Then some years later I read an article about a lady in a similar situation who had moved from Tucson to Washington DC. Tucson wasn't her childhood home either, but she said she felt like weeping every day until she returned. There was an idyllic photo with the article of her riding her horse in an arroyo after she moved back. I don't weep except at silly things like puppy chow commercials; but I have been homesick every day for 20 years.

That is exactly how I feel lately. Especially now that all our plans have been put on hold. I am bereft.

Funny. I grew up here and I was pretty happy with it, insofar as things go, but when I moved away I didn't mind being gone. Not one bit. Only had a small bout of homesickness when I saw "No Country For Old Men" in the theater and the hunting scene in the beginning brought back some memories. But now that I'm back ... wow ... very happy to be back. All the things I should have "missed" all along are now treasures for me again - treasures that I'm aware of more than ever ... like the thunder overhead right now, and the smell that comes with it, and the pale orange coming in through my office window ...
