Hello! I'm doing research and thought I would use this forum also. I retired early (age 53) and would like to relocate to Arizona, Tucson specifically. Can anyone recommend a nice location that is on a bus line (I like the car free life) and near the bicycle trail I hear there is there? Looking for a 1 bedroom in the $700 range $900 max. I'm an avid bicyclist. Thanks!

Close but not exactly, Rjw . . .

Although most are 2 Bedrooms / 2 Baths, the Patio Homes in my area (Tucson Mall / Stone and Wetmore) are super convenient to the Rillito Trail (also referred to as The Loop) plus just about everything else including a number of Sun Tran Bus Routes.

The rents are in your budget plus they all have a Two Car Garage which is rare for an apartment complex and great for keeping your Bicycle safe as well as other storage.

Good Luck and Welcome to Tucson.

Thanks for the response! I didn't find Patio Homes yet but I did look at the area and that is definitely what I am looking for. Close to the bike trail and lots of places to eat! Always a plus. Will research places around the Tucson mall. Thanks, great information!

Maybe searching for Town Homes would help, Rjw.

I live near the corner of Stone and Limberlost. There are a number of small Patio Home / Town Home Complexes along Limberlost between First Avenue and Oracle Road.

There are also a number of larger Apartment Complexes in the general area, however, as I posted earlier, I believe you will find more security and privacy in a Patio Home plus the private Two Car Garage.

Once again . . . Good Luck

When my mother was alive, her rental was not far from where Bummer described (near 1st ave). I always brought my bicycle along when visiting Tucson, and it was a good location to ride from in any direction. Over the decades I explored almost every part of Tucson metro on 2 wheels.

If I were looking for a rental in the Tucson mall area, I suggest several blocks away from Oracle Rd due to the noise 24x7 from vehicle traffic. Also, Oracle Rd heading downtown does not have a bike lane so it is not a good bike route. There are several other parallel streets to the east like 1st Ave or Stone that have bike lanes. See Google Map of Tucson and click the "bicycling" option, it will show all the streets in Tucson that have bike lanes, and all the "MUP" (multi-use paths) for bikes and pedestrians that are off the city streets.

Near Stone & Wetmore is a SunTrans bus transfer center, where many local bus routes converge and routes serve many different directions, not just 1 bus line. This is handy if you want to take your bike on the bus (front rack on bus) out to a far end of town and pedal back home (or vice versa). Also at Stone & Wetmore is Sweet Tomatoes, a great all you can eat soup & salad bar. I live 1 block walk from one of these here in Southern Cal and it is the best place to eat tons of fresh veggies for under $10 at lunch.

Another area to consider a few miles east of Tucson Mall is near Alvernon & Glenn. Any sort of retail or service you might need is within a short distance. Lots of apartment or small condo / patio home rentals in this area also. It is also near the Rillito River trail and there are several good north/south & east/west bus and on-street bicycle routes. Good luck.
