I noticed this snake on my lot in Oro Valley today.
It was about 5 to 6 ft long - and was quite fast moving.

Any idea what this may be?

It's hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like either a glossy snake or gopher snake. They're non-venemous and eat lizards, mice, rats, small birds, etc. They're constrictors, so they squeeze their prey to death. They won't hurt you.

Here is a video of what I believe to be a Gopher snake that I took just a few days ago. I came to this conclusion from results of an image search I did on Yahoo. The snake you saw looks different to me, but it is possible it could be the same thing.

If you have a Facebook account, there is a wonderful group called Sonoran Desert Wildlife

https://www.facebook.com/groups/sonorandesert/?fref=nf

You can post your photos there and people are very helpful and knowledgable regarding all things desert related.

Thanks all. The snake had a 'blackish' head area, and the pattern was certainly different from the video that @bkolodzi put here.
Will try the FB page and other suggestions to get this identified.
The snake was very fast... I had to literally run behind it to catch up.

Northern Desert Nightsnake? Some people keep them as pets.

My best guess is a coachwhip or a glossy snake. Nightsnakes have black heads but top out at about 24-26" long.
