How is somebody to know whether a stranger carrying is "creepy" or not? A stranger is just that, you don't know who they are. I suppose a revolver on the hip isn't so creepy for me, but an AR15 with a belt full of magazines walking around the mall or into Macdonald's would make me leave....

I am drawn to the Tucson area. How many of you know of transplants that moved there, or yourself, and couldn't take the heat? Heat from the sun (not packing heat).
I visited in both February and July. Obviously February was wonderful. July wasn't bad, I didn't mind it at all, but I was there only a week. I did get out of Phoenix as fast as the highway speed would allow. I like the heat, do I like it enough? I've read countless threads here and other sites trying to figure that question out. I like the lack of rain, I like the monsoons, I like the dust, I like the open vistas, I even like the brown, although I'd have to visit other locations and visit "home" once a year and would get my green fix. I love low humidity, I admit I didn't like the dry mouth feeling and constant thirst, but I read most adjust. Who has moved to this area and regretted it?

Slightly.

Tucson's a little small for my taste but Phoenix is way too huge.

I'm drawn to metros of the size of Portland or Sacramento (2 - 2.5 mil), but Tucson will do for now. Going home to Portland is impossible; the Portland I grew up in is long gone.

Better to be in someplace too small but growing rather than someplace already too huge and still getting larger.

I have no idea how I ended up in this thread but here I am. Kinda buzzed through the whole thing and I see the concerns about transplants moving in and changing things. Same problem on the East coast. There we have "northerners" moving to southern States like NC, SC, GA and complaining about pizza, bagels, and guns.

Everyone would be welcomed anywhere if they just adopted the way things are done to the place their moving to ! If you're moving away from something, why would you want to bring that with you to a new place?

Being a little bit dramatic, don’t you think? Or do you suffer from extreme paranoia? No one is waking around a mall or a Mc Donald's with an AR 15 and a magazine belt. Get a grip. You probably need to deprogram before moving to Arizona. Actually, I don't think Arizona would be a good fit you.

A voice of reason and logic.

I've been in Tucson for about three years, and haven't seen a gun yet. I have seen signs prohibiting bringing a gun into various stores.

I haven't tried to change it to be more like Minnesota, Hawaii, or other places I've lived.

But the summers are brutal, and we're going to try sunbirding next year; find a rental somewhere cool for a few months.

We considered buying something in Prescott for the summer months but wife didn't like the vibe there. She wants something in northern Idaho which I think would also be a nice place to escape the Phoenix summer.

Occasionally you'll see people openly carrying a sidearm while going about their daily business. It's perfectly legal and no one gets all bent outta' shape over it. It's been that way since Arizona became a state in 1912. We have our own 2nd Amendment clause in our state Constitution:

Quote:
"The right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself or the state shall not be impaired, but nothing in this section shall be construed as authorizing individuals or corporations to organize, maintain or employ an armed body of men."---Excerpt from the Constitution from the State of Arizona. Section 26. Bearing Arms.
Thank God for the 2nd Amendment and Arizona's 2nd Amendment sanctuary status. Those that don't agree with it would be better off in California if they like the warm weather instead of trying to change Arizona to their liking. More than likely they're going to meet fierce resistance, not be welcomed and end up being miserable in the long run.
