We moved to Arizona last year from NE Oklahoma, love it and the people we have met. It was the end of four years of planning, selling and traveling to different parts of the state, again and again. Although I liked many areas, Prescott, Payson, Cottonwood, we settled in Cochise county. We had a WHOLE week of winter weather, three or four times with pretty snow that barely accumulated and then quickly melted away because temps were not cold enough. The snow on the mountains around us was beautiful and the other day could still see light snow on the ground in the higher elevations. Cochise county is rural with a lot of "down home " people, not what someone who has to have a lot of things going on would like, but still plenty for us. We moved here because we liked the weather, the people and the mindset of much of the rural population. We settled here and bought rural acreage to get away from the city and the way that every city, after reaching a certain size,
seems to want to run everything you do, there is no end to new rules. Never ever would we ever consider Pima County, we will let those who fit in there move there. By the way, I have a concealed carry gun permit so I can carry in many states, if I want. Went through training and FBI checks. I see no need to advertise that I am armed, as I suspect is true of most. If i am heading to of from hunting or shooting, i will likely have a holstered pistol, as I see no need to leave it in car. Sorry if it makes anyone nervous but we grew up when everyone had rifles and shotguns in there pickup gun racks and an old revolver under the seat. In the end, the point is, we moved where the place fits us. (not trying to encourage anyone else to move here LOL)

Enjoy Cochise County, okie bird dog! Great choice. If I didn't work here and own a house here and love it here in Alamogordo, NM, I would be back in SE Arizona, too. Go see Fort Bowie and the Chiricahua National Monument - beautiful park. I love to go take the short hike over to Fort Bowie from the parking lot and soak in some true Wild West history. Enjoy it all. It is all I need, and Alamo is, too. We've got scads of trees 16 miles east of us here up in the Sacramento Mts. - Lincoln National Forest.

Doing homework have been surprised that property taxes in Pima County (Tucson) are almost double what they are in Maricopa County (Phx, Scottsdale, etc) based on the same purchase price.

I own a handgun and target shoot. I'm all for responsible gun ownership. But where is the "well-regulated militia"? Many people don't realize it wasn't until 2008 that the SCOTUS ruled that the Second Amendment included *individual* gun ownership. Here's an interesting article about how the NRA influenced how the Second Amendment is actually interpreted.

The NRA actually opposed "machine guns" in the 30s. Now they're find with little kids firing child-size assault rifles.

Guns are only creepy when creeps have guns. Non creepy people carrying a firearm are of no threat. Leave the thinking from your former home at the state line.
