I'm an RN with many years experience looking at a job offer at TMC. Anyone out there know what TMC is like? I'm currently working at a facility owned by a very large healthcare outfit - or should I say out for profit outfit? Nothing matters but making money and protecting the company from bad JCAHO surveys. Is TMC any better? What is the RN turnover rate? How many travelers? If you could make the choice again, would you choose TMC? I'd also appreciate hearing from any former TMC patients - did you receive good care? Did the staff make you feel that your condition/situation mattered to them or did you feel as if ringing your call bell was a fruitless effort?

Thanks to all.

Hi there,

My wife is a nurse in the NICU at TMC and for the most part has good things to say. She has friends in other units at Northwest, St. Mary's, and the VA and after hearing what they have to say she is happy to be at TMC.

I know in her unit the turnover rate is pretty low, but from what I understand the NICU tends to be that way in general. As far as travelers, there was a big push a few months ago to cut costs and from what my wife told me, they discovered that too many travelers were employed instead of full-time staff which burned a hole in their pocket. The solution was to hire more permanent staff.

Hope that helps!

It's good to see posts like this. My wife is an LPN but it looks like she will be getting her BSRN before we move now. The housing market kind of put the kabash on moving this year so se most likely will be returning to school in two months.

Just an FYI, the University of Arizona has a 14-month FastTrack Program for a BSRN if you have a college degree already.

My daughter was born there - granted that was 9 years ago. I really liked the hospital. It seems at the time everyone told me the care there was top quality. I certainly had a very good experience there.

Special to Michael Krotchie - I'm looking at renting a house in Tucson and based on my research here at City-Data the best areas are North East side and East side of town. I've also been looking at possibly buying once established in my new job and having completed the probationary privilege. In researching the real estate market in Tucson, it seems that prices have been dropping and that there are many foreclosures. Has Tucson been hit as hard by the ARM problems as it seems? Is the market stagnant or are properties moving quickly - I've seen a lot of reduced price listings.
Thanks!
And thanks again to all who have replied to my posting!
