Can you tell me anything about DR Horton both as builders and the quality of their workmanship in Rancho Sahuarita, as well as how they are as Lenders.

DR Horton for the most part seems to be a solid builder. Back in 2004 I strongly considered a DRH home myself and spent quite a bit of time looking at several developments around town to see the different floorplans (Rancho Sahuarita included).

I was satisfied with both the quality of construction and the professionalism of their staff. Although I decided to go with Pulte ultimately, it was partly by choice, partly by circumstance.

As far as lenders go IIRC they had some pretty enticing incentives when going with their lender (like most builders) and we were leaning that way pretty heavily.

Rancho Sahuarita is obviously a great place to live and seems to be growing nicely. I would suggest walking through some of the partially completed structures and poking around to see for yourself the qualify of workmanship (Sunday is the best day to go!).

Some of my realtor friends are steering people away from RS. They're concerned about proliferation of multiple families or extended families sharing the same dwelling as witnessed by the number of vehicles parked in the drive or street. Go out there on a Sunday morning.

Might want to give your Realtor friends a heads up that steering is illegal..

But I do second your advice to cruise the neighborhood at different times to see if it fits your lifestyle!

We took my inlaws there a couple days ago (they were in town from MI visiting us) and they LOVED the place and the Del Webb community as well.

Yep Del Webb has some great floorplans and rock bottom pricing as well, I'm a fan of theirs.

I looked at Horton in Empire Heights. The sales people were not my cup of tea... Neither was their 3-legal-pages list of upgrades. The standard hardware on the doors was ugly yellow brass for cryin' out loud!

From what I have heard they are not rated very high. In other words if you have a choice pick or look at other builders.
