Currently, my fiance and I live near Madison, Wisconsin. Prior to that, we lived in Phoenix, Arizona. We are now seriously looking at a more permanent move to Tucson.

Currently, I am a project manager in the construction trades. However, as the industry is cyclical and I know a plateau and possible downward trend is coming, I am looking to change career fields at 40 years of age. I have dabbled with web development for a few years, but nothing too serious. Now, looking at where I am career wise and where I could be, I am excited about the possibilities should I pursue the web development/software engineering path.

The question then is, what does the web development/software engineering filed look like in Tucson? Are there decent job prospects? Jobs plentiful? Etc., etc., etc.

Any insight and words you all may have is greatly appreciated.

Thank You.

Would not want to discourage you, as would always recommend living in Tucson if you could manage it at all. That said, Tucson is similar to Madison in that its university graduates generally love the cities and want to stay in town after graduation if possible. So there are a lot of qualified people vying for the number of jobs in mid-size cities.

Personally, all I ever wanted was to be a citizen of Tucson, Arizona, the rest of my life. My husband had other ideas, and we moved to Chicago about 25 years ago specifically for the larger job market. I did manage to live in Tucson about 15 years, so I consider myself very lucky. I sincerely hope you also have good fortune!
