I just heard the sad news. His work in athletics was instrumental in the improvements in academics at the UofA. One of the very best.

Thanks for sharing! The story did not make the national news I follow. Steve Kerr's Twitter page devoted many posts in tribute.

Surprising. Can't imagine why the MMS wouldn't show a little respect to a guy named Luther Olson. He was more important to Tucson than most NBA teams are to their (dis)respective cities.

May have taken a day or so, but there have now been stories in the NY Times, the Washington Post, ESPN, ABC News and CBS News, CNN, Fox News, Iowa newspapers and of course the Phoenix and Tucson newspapers.

Lute Olson was a legendary coach who exemplified the best in coaching character, and commanded the best from his players, on and off the field. In person, he was a real gentleman.
