While my parents were away on vacation in November of this year, the town's raw sewage where they reside in the White Mountains of Arizona backed up into their home, saturating the floor throughout the house. The home sat this way for a minimum of six days, and possibly up to 14 days while the heat in the home was on. They arrived home to nauseating fumes from the sludge and the appearance of what looked like mold up the walls. After a water remediation team removed all of the furniture and carpeting, 68 gallons of water was collected by a dehumidifier within a period of 24 hrs.

The home was built in the 50's and there is also a concern of what consequences may result from the aggravation of asbestos and lead-based paint that are no doubt present.

Is there a way for the home to be tested for such dangers? In order for remediation to be a viable option, are there criteria that should be met first?

Unhappy mediation and restortion co.

Advise your parents to call the company they used for the cleanup and they should tell them what can or needs to be done.
Good Luck to them.
Also call their insurance co for advice, they don't have to file a claim but can ask for help.
