My favorite pack rat story is this.

My wife watches a lot of houses over the summer months.

When she was walking through a house's rear patio, she noticed some leaves and other vegetation below a Green Egg style grill. When she lifted the grill top looking for a pack rat nest, she noticed a large rattlesnake in the grill. She jumped back and called the snake patrol at the GVFD. Then she saw that pack rat jump out of the grill.

The fire department removed the snake and she spent an hour removing the pack rat's nest.

That's good information, Bart, thank you. Worth it to manage it before it becomes a problem, and nice they give you options.

Jlawrence, your rattlesnake story nearly made me jump out of my chair. I may never look at a barbecue the same way again - and probably will always raise the top slowly!

if there is any tiny opening in the enclosed garage, packrats will find it. They walk right up the wall of mine. I have had people come repeatedly to seal up tiny holes around the roof. Same thing with the house roof although we may have finally gotten that sealed tight. They are clever little critters.....
