The Cooper's hawk chick is growing quickly and starting to get some dark feathers. We did not see the male bring any food today, but I am sure it is happening as good as the chick looks!!! Near the end of recording this video, the mate (or what I thought was the mate) in the tree adjacent to the tree with the nest in it left the tree and flew directly at me about 10 feet over my head. He swooped in to a short tree, than on to a prickly pear cactus. As you could see at the end of my video, Momma saw this and bolted from the nest and also flew over my head and to a different tree in the yard. She followed the other hawk on to a fence and then off to somewhere else. I am not sure if she was trying to help her mate hunt, or running off another intruder. It was very exciting to see these hawks in action!!!

What an adorable puff ball this baby is! It looks like it's wearing a white down parka (with some new dark feathers coming in). Love how it's starting to flap its wings with gusto (really cute at about 4:11 on your video). How quickly they grow up. Thank you, Bart, for this cuteness fix!
