This nest is an engineering feat the way it's built suspended within this palm! Amazingly strong however she attached it, and a beautiful nest location. I can't get over how busy the mother Oriole is - all those meals for the hungry babies (that one green meal is huge!). And acrobatic, the way she leans upside down into the nest doing housekeeping. Really enjoyed your great filming, thank you!

Thanks for watching wildflowers27! FYI, some folks are thinking that this is a year old male oriole. Either way, it is doing a fantastic job of caring for the chicks! Meals were being delivered every 10 to 15 minutes, so yes, this was one busy bird. The nest is fantastic! I guess these little birds know what they are doing!!! ;-)

What a great film! I too kept wondering how the nest stays in place. It seems like it would fall out of there.

Were they eating insects or plant materials? I couldn't tell what the big green thing was.

Glad you liked the video Windwalker2! I am pretty sure they were eating insects. As for the big green thing, I am not sure what it was either, but I am guessing some kind of insect or larvae. I am glad I am not a baby bird! Yuck!!!
