Bureaucratic weirdness:

I applied for Sentri last week, and was approved for an interview appointment within two days. (Next available appointment June30.)
My husband applied in December; he's still waiting for that approval. It says it might take up to 8-9 months to process. He sent an email asking if there was a problem.

Just get a Global Entry Card. I go several times to the dentist in Nogales. I get right through with absolutely no wait. Here's a link.
https://ttp.dhs.gov/ Its the Homeland Security Trusted Traveler Site. It really doesn't take that long now.

The problem is that the preapproval hasn't come in yet, and there's no difference in the wait to cross the border whether you have a Sentri or Global Entry card.

I just crossed a couple weeks ago, and surprise, surprise there was no one in line at noon! First time that's ever happened!

yeah, we went to Nogales last week, no line in either direction. The time before, we waited half an hour.
Hubster drove down to San Felipe, and spent 3 hours in line on the way back.

It's a crapshoot.

I have a Sentri card and crossing the border is (to use my grandma's old phrase) "slick as snot".

That said, last time I came back after some dental work, I was #2 in the fast lane, behind an old lady who stood there for what seemed like forever, fumbling through her ginormous handbag to locate her Sentri card. Lordy, if you're going to go through all that trouble to get the dang card, have it out and ready to go before you get to the turnstile thingy.
