Neighborhood (Tucson, Nogales, South Tucson: to rent, crime rate, job transfer)

My husband has accepted a job with the Border Patrol and we will be relocating to Arizona in June. His station is in Nogales, but is willing to commute @ an hour each way. I would love some information on neighborhoods that I would feel comfortable staying alone at night. We plan to rent for about 6 months and then purchase a home. Thank you.

Not sure that you want to post this on the Tucson forum. You'd have a difficult time making it from Tucson to Nogales in under an hour.
It all depends on what you need to feel safe. I think I'd feel safe most places around Nogales. With a crime rate that's 80% of the U.S. average -- and about a quarter of what it is in South Tucson -- Nogales (the Arizona side of it) is probably one of the safer cities in Arizona. Patagonia is a lovely area a bit farther up the highway, though very small. Rio Rico would probably meet your needs, too, and it's much larger.

When my husband and I first moved here it was because of the same thing - border patrol in Nogales. We lived in Sahuarita...I think you can google Rancho Sahuarita and check it out. We enjoyed it very much. it has grown since then and we now live in Tucson (job transfer) but Sahuarita is a great place to live. Hope this helps.
