For the month of July in 2022, there was quite a bit of activity in the area behind our casita. In case you do not know what a casita is, in Spanish it means little house. Commonly it is a guest house for friends and family that visit. I do not show you everything that the camera catches because there is a lot of video triggered by birds and rabbits. This 9+ minute video shows you the most interesting things that the trail cam caught. The one really odd thing I saw was a doe squatting to urinate. I did a little research on this and found this information:

"During the breeding season, deer will rub-urinate, a process during which a deer squats while urinating so that urine will run down the insides of the deer's legs. The deer then rubs its metatarsal glands together, rubbing the urine into the tuft of hair found at this location."

This article http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/la...eer-772583.php was about white-tailed deer, but I am guessing it is probably the same for mule deer.

As you will also note, there are quite a few coyote and even a bobcat! There are also several javelina, but mostly singles or small groups. My thought is that staying in a group (squadron) is less necessary in the summer months, but when the nights get cold, they will need each other to stay warm, so they will tend to travel and coalesce in to larger groups. Anyhow, I hope you enjoyed what the trail cam had to show us! I have ordered a second trail cam (my other one was stolen), and I will mount it in a more secure location where I think we will get some great captures! We will know in a few weeks!!! As always, thanks for watching!!!

Great collection of material! Always enjoy your video's.

If you keep that water available to the "locals," they'll become more used to it, with less reluctance. There may come a time when an "A-Type" may want to "claim ownership" of your water bowl, for their own use only. This may offer you some REAL interesting behavior, amongst the "locals."

I guess we will see what happens. I plan to keep the water available year-round. Even though there is water, I see a number of animals pass through that do not take any water. Whatever it is, I am happy for all the visits!
