Hi everyone,

My partner & I are in the early planning phase of relocating to the Tucson area from Tampa Florida. Before Tampa we lived in San Francisco for 15 years (and loved it).

We visited Tucson and Oro Valley last year for a few days and really enjoyed our stay. We're hoping to visit again this spring and start looking at properties.

Does anyone have any insight into the gay and lesbian life in the Tucson area? Relatively tolerant there - or more on the dangerous side?

Thanks for your input!

David

Default my $.02 from a gay acting straight.....

i have many gay griends in Tucson....the downtown area is very tolerant, and has many gay and lesbian owned businesses.....if you like a bar scene like Houston or Austin (or SF) you may be disappointed.... younger wild singles tend to gravitate to the bay area after a while....if you are more into a closer group of friends, dinner parties and outdoor stuff you will probably find lotsa of kindred spirits....i may add that i was proud to live in the only state that voted against further "gay marriage " bans as ballot initiatives in the last election....

Default good answer

Hi HW,

The bar scene has been relegated to a 'once in a blue moon' sort of activity. It was much more fun in my 20's.

Activities we enjoy include socializing with friends, cooking, dinner parties, foreign and independent film, gardening, admiring and absorbing the local color, reading groups/book clubs, volunteer work, learning foreign languages, hiking & biking, camping, and travel.

I'm very proud of Arizonans for taking a 'live & let live' stand against adding discrimination to the state constitution. One step in the right direction.

Thanks for your reply!

Default outdoor stuff in every direction....and the Loft cinema...

sounds like it could be great for you.....southeast Az has great areas in every direction...i am an avid wild food gatherer hiker, and chef,- and the white mtns.( @3hours away)are one of the best kept secrets in the western US......Bisbee is really cool, truly an American original....you may feel a bit dry often here compared to the Gulf coast, but as one who grew up there i love the dry much better than the wet....the lack of green can be compensated by going up....
check out the Loft cinema...very independent and comitted...

good luck!
