I’m going to be moving to Tucson and am thinking about getting solar. I used to live in Phoenix and had solar there and loved it. Can anyone recommend good solar companies that you have dealt with, whether owned or leased? I’d greatly appreciate it!

I am new to Tucson and interested in solar if it's financially viable.

What is the average payback in years?

I priced solar in FL in 2015 and it's payback was horrible, 10-15 years.

We have solar panels at our other home in Central Mexico and the payback was under two years.

Too many state legislatures rely on political donations from utility companies and the electric companies do not like home-based solar. I believe there is a bll in the AZ legislature right now that would make going solar for a homeowner an even worse proposition. https://www.semafor.com/article/10/1...ull-plug-solar

I just heard a quote of 4000 USD to remove a residential solar setup for a new roof, and replace it after. Did the solar shorten the life of the roof? Maybe.

I would be very careful. There are many fly by night companies in the solar industry. Also, southern Arizona doesn't seem to regulate companies and clamp down on scam artists. There's a lot of rip off companies in the home repair industry in Southern Arizona. I've been here a year building a house. You really need to be on your A game in this state to get any reputable work done on anything. Just Beware!

The installers probably shortened the life of the roof. You don't really think they cared about the roof when they installed the system. You have to be crazy to trust any of these companies to install a system on your roof. There's way to many things that can go wrong and the integrity of your roof will suffer.

Agreed. It's a big sub prime business. Roofs have gone up a lot ...possibly more than AC. I've got some good construction horror stories from my decade in Thailand, but at least the ladies were slim and nice.
