i was hearing about all the problems near Tucson with the shootings and drug trafficking issues... even the Mexican Army, or whatever it's called...

i was wondering how worried, if at all, you guys are down there about all this, and being that there were even shootings 20 min outside of Tucson, and that they have targets (human) in U.S. cities (incl Tucson), how safe would you say the situation is there?

do you think the situation is getting worse or better? are you guys concerned about your safety, or do you think the media is just making a big deal over it?

Shootings? I guess I have been living in a void. I live six miles from the border in one of the biggest areas for crossings. I don't fear for my life. I don't carry a gun. There is a popular "pick up" spot three doors down from mine. I mind my own business and do fine. It is a pain that I feel like I shouldn't go walking at night, but there are many areas in the U.S. that that is true. My husband works in the mountains and hasn't had any problems, yet.

The major problem area is across the border from El Paso. So far, not too much of the out-and-out drug violence has reached the other Mexican border cities, that I am aware of. Although, there was a violent death of a Mexican man in Naco, Sonora not too long ago.

I must lead a sheltered life, because I've never been ANYWHERE near ANY of the above. EVER!

It must be that 1% of sensational news that the media loves to play up, as if it was one big major horror around here, or sumthin'!

Sorta like it only makes the news if a "man bites a dog"?

yeah, it's sad cause on our list of potential places to live, Tucson was briefly on it. till we started reading the news about the border issues. we ended up debating between NM and CO. CO won due to better pay, lower housing costs.

hopefully we'll be able to come n visit our newb friends out there plenty!

Well, I bet you know about the vans and SUVs overloaded with illegals rolling over almost every month and killing innocent people in chain accidents in the process...

What? This happens in the very beautiful and most wonderful state of Arizona? Are you sure? You must be talking about Texas!
