Hey, mdtoaz. That was exactly the place I had in mind (good choice!). Really nice area. Bear Wallow Rd is the bottom of the road that I enter from the top end (where it says Mt Bigelow trail head). All the camp grounds are up near the top.

Really not much of a trail as such (I just walk down the dirt road), but it's a beautiful place, and a really pleasant, not too long, not too strenuous hike/walk.

We're going to try to go camping this weekend. I'm thinking somewhere woodsy (yes, I know it'll probably be cold at night) maybe in the Catalinas. We're tent campers and would prefer not to be surrounded by RV's on all sides.

Primitive sites as well as those with some facilities are fine. We don't really do KOA-type campgrounds. Just looking to recharge for the weekend. We'd definitely prefer somewhere that we could have a campfire (especially if we're up at a higher elevation).

Any recommendations would be swell.
I have a few favorites to share:

French Joe Canyon; no fee, primitive, isolated, quiet, lonely!
Milepost 300, west side of State Hwy 90 S of Benson
French Joe Canyon

Carr Canyon; simply magnificent
Coronado National Forest - Senic Drives - Carr Canyon Road

Mt Graham in the Safford area Usually very quiet.
