Perhaps some of you out there have experienced riding a city bus around your old hometown, or perhaps even here, in Tucson. Some good experiences - some not as good, I'm sure! Sun Tran of Tucson states that they are committed to providing excellent customer service to their passengers, and for the most part, they do.

For example, they provide a very good Express bus service which mainly transports employed citizens to and from work via several locations in and around the greater Tucson area. Indeed, great service!

However, other than this proven Express service, has the Sun Tran regular public transportation system slowly been deteriorating into what some are calling the ( dare I say it?) Ghetto-on-Wheels?

I've been on buses in Tucson a few times. Obviously, different demographics - it's not like Europe where everybody rides the buses. I haven't seen anything scary per se, though.

Good to know. I've heard casual commentary that some of the Sun Tran riders look like a cross section of unabomber look-alikes and assorted bogeyman wannabes. Perhaps I heard incorrectly...

True, Bummer Man. My understanding is that Sun Tran wouldn't be one of the best places to go trolling for a hook-up!

Well, perhaps some lines are worse than others... I've been on a bus a few times up and down Grant only when my car was in the shop.

I rode on Sun Tran before my previous job paid me modestly for me to buy a car. I rode on Sun Tran from 2004-2006, and for the most part the service was good (when I rode the bus from home to the college I attended from 2004-2005. The ride took me only 10 minutes). However, when I got my first real job on the Southside, the ride took over an HOUR to get to my destination from the Northside. Thankfully I had an XM radio to keep me entertained for the ride. It all depends where you live in town and how many buses you have to transfer to get to your destination. Who knows, if gas prices go over $2.50 a gallon, I might have to take the bus again myself .

Hang in there, ihatetucson! Let's hope gas prices stay down for a while, eh?

I meet all my Mr Right's on the bus.

And can it really be any worse than a NYC subway train? Once, I had to strategically lift my feet to avoid the meandering puddle of urine floating about the car as it stop-and-go'ed.
