We finally made it to Tucson in late January; moved into a great home near Harrison & Snyder (I want to be as far away from "city life" as feasible after 26 years in NYC!), and now have a dilemma.

My daughter (17) fell in love with the Early Childhood program at Catalina Magnet HS... not a particularly great HS. We now live 1/4 mile from Sabino HS, which is far superior in terms of general academics... but offers no Early Childhood program. :-(

Can any Tusconian explain to me the protocol for attending a school NOT in your "neighborhood" ? I have been unable to figure this all out from the counsellors. Ugh.

On the otherhand, the Bear Canyon area is absolutely FABULOUS! Just wish we had other stores to choose from besides Ace, Walgreens and Safeway!

Thanks for any input...

Laurel

The Tucson School District TUSD) is a system of 'magnet' high schools, set up to desegregate neighborhoods. If you live in TUSD, then you should have a choice within that realm.

Canyon Del Oro High School (CDO) up in Oro Valley, is in the Amphitheater School District (Amphi) and has a marvelous early childhood program, with a liscensed and certified preschool in which the high school students develope, present, and carryout curriculim and lesson plans with the 3 and 4 year olds. The preschoolers are children of Amphi employees. CDO is an 'open enrollment' high school. I'm not sure if that means your student could attend there for sure, but you can call their information # at 520-696-5560 to learn more about their rules of enrollment. Good luck. There are a lot of good high schools in the Tucson area, and the choices can be overwhelming, as well as the rules. Hang in there & welcome to the Sonoran Desert.
