Broadway from Houghton to I-10?

Depending on time of day and traffic . . . that could be a booger commute!

Thanks everyone for the opinions! I think that one day I will get a scooter for fun but I think an economical car is the way to go, esp. since it will be my only transportation. Yeah, Broadway looks like its the main drag for commute cross-town so I appreciate the advice about 5th Street!

While I realize this thread has not been updated in awhile, I wanted to see what decision the original poster went with.

Did you choose the motorcycle/scooter or a cheap car?

What were the primary factors that encouraged your decision?

Are there other motorcycle/scooter riders in Tucson who've been successful street riders here?

What have you done to make your commute safer?

Finally, have any of you been involved in an accident on a motorcycle/scooter in Tucson and what circumstances contributed to it?

Thanks for any and all input.

I know a guy who used to ride a bicycle from Escalante and Houghton area, all the way to the El Con Mall area, for work.

Then he got a scooter and used that - until it was stolen.

Then he rode his bicycle again, and eventually got a Yamaha Road Star motorcycle.

His wife would take him/pick him up when it was wet/supposed to get wet outside.

I always thought he was crazy.

I would NEVER ride a scooter or motorcycle on the street period! Case in point, last Monday (7-20) I had just left work and I got hit by a drunk driver. She broad sided my minivan and totaled it. She spun me around and onto the sidewalk and took off. She then hit another car and that's where she got caught. She was driving a Hyundai Santa Fe and she hit my Grand Caravan. She just turned left like I wasn't there. She was driving the opposite direction pretty fast (very obvious) and I never saw it comming, she just turned.

Fortunately I didn't get hurt.

I can't even imagine the outcome of the same on a scooter or motorcycle. (I'm sure it would be DEAD)

Glad you're OK!

I just happened to have one of those "thingies" in front of me this morning. Suicidal types...

Glad to hear you're ok, Sick.

Episodes such as yours are far too common nowadays and come to mind whenever I see someone driving one of those "trendy" Smart Cars, let alone a scooter or a bicycle.

About a month ago, I witnessed a very minor rear-end bump by a Ford Expedition (driver on her cell phone) into a Smart Car. NOT a pretty sight.

Once again . . . GOOD TO HEAR YOU'RE OK, it could have been much worse.
