60 going on 50 acting like 40 automotive technician looking for dark skies outside of town. Will be looking for work and at first a house to rent/lease for the wife and myself. I have just started to look and don't know the area at all yet. Not looking for the best or expecting the worst, but our needs are simple. Older, rural and "rustic" OK.

Before we go any further, be fairly warned that there are some jobs here in Tucson, but there are all call center jobs. Alot of retailers have laid off several people. So the only choice for jobs around here is a call center . I have worked for 3 of them, and I have been let go from all 3 of them for not meeting quotas, my quality score is low, and because a client pulled out. But as far as other jobs are concerned, I hate to say it but there is nothing. But if you are looking for pitch black skies, I would say anywhere west of Tucson Mountain Park would be a stellar choice and it is pretty rural with open spaces. I don't mean to ateer you away from Tucson, but I am just educating you since I have lived here all of my life

Somehow most of us do NOT work for call centers.

Yep, no hope for someone that works on cars, they never break down in Tucson.

Besides, these days everybody just buys a new car if the old one does break.

Funny how the only choice for a job is working at a call center. I've never even met anyone that works at a call center.

WOW, I Hate Tucson, been fired from three call centers. I think that says it all. Thinking maybe the city of Tucson is not the problem here.

Funny IHATETUCSON, I just looked on Monster.com and there are over 500 jobs listed there alone........and none are call center jobs. Looks like just about everything else.

Also true. For me.

Stanley, there always "seems" to be ads for GOOD technicians. You should be fine. There are many dealers within the city limits. Check out the "Automall" near the NW area. It's like a bazillion dealers all near each other. As far as dark skies, most of it is. There is a rule about part of Tucson because of the observatories, etc. But you could always look outside the city limits for rural areas.
