Is there any limit to the amount of hours an employer can make a salaried employee work?

Probably not. I'm not certian about Arizona but here in IL you salary is based on a yearly sum so there are not any specific weekly hours. But you are always expected to work more than 40 hours. They just cut our hrs to 36 starting in May due to the economy ( so they can legally cut our salaries) but they expect that we will work the same hrs. Illinois is not a "Right To Work" state but Arizona is. But that pretty much only pertains to Union issues. Here an employer can terminate you for any reason except those covered by laws like Gender, Race, Religion, etc. Basically you can be terminated because your new boss doesn't like you, or you don't work enough hours. The one thing you do get is if they give you time off for a reprimand they cannot deduct it from your salary.

Most labor laws do not pertain to salaried people so you don't automatically get a coffee break or you are not limited by the laws stating how many consecutive days you can work without 24 consecutive hours off, or that you have to have a meal break after a specified amount of hours worked, etc. To be covered by those laws you usually need to be an hourly employee.

Actually we don't get paid for taking extra days off. We have to use a personal/vacation day or they deduct it from or pay. We're hourly when they decide it works to their benefit.

That company is the reason that unions came into being..... I would very quietly start looking for employment elsewhere, you are being exploited....

2. Find a new job with a company that matches your expectations and work ethic.
3. Keep complaining and wait for someone from "Obama-nation" to come tuck you into bed at night and tell you everything will be alright.

I am a salaried employee in arizona, my question is is my employer allowed to deduct my salary if i come in 1 hour late and skip lunch so im still working my 40-45 hr week?

This actually depends on the individual employer, and their particular policy and needs.


However, another concern that an employer might have, is that if an employee gets back LATE from their morning break, they MIGHT miss lunch.
