Boa tarde senhora! Como vai? Eu fala um pouco de portugues. A minha esposa so brasileiro.

I speak just about well enough to get by if I were to get lost in Brazil. My wife has been in thei country for about 11 years now and we visit her family roughly every other year. We are not in Tucson yet but we will also want to find other Brazilians.

I completely missed the last post on this thread!

Let me know when you get to Tucson! I also speak well enough to get by with simple conversations. My problem is understanding portuguese when the speaker is speaking too fast. I need to be around more portuguese speakers to improve that part of the learning process.

This is the same problem I have. I usually feel bad when we visit my in-laws because I can't converse much. I usually have a very difficult time understanding them.

We have a dish for one chanel, Brazilian Globo TV. I watch the news and the talk show Programa do Jo and can follow somewhat. But i really would like to be able to speak more fluently.

You should do what Americans do abroad - they believe the louder they speak the better understood they'll be!

That, too, instead of trying to either pick easier vocabulary and less slang and contractions or at least have the decency to first ask if the other person speaks English! Or perhaps even learn a few words in a foreign language! I know that's a revolutionary idea, though... How dare anybody not speak English…?!

So much for the Brazilian night, M.A... I was hoping to have a nice day today... Of course, when it's warm and there are outdoor events, you don't get to enjoy them! Half of them get ruined by the looooooved by some many rain.

Did you go? Wow, it was soooo much fun! Thank goodness the damn weather didn't manage to ruin it.

And so many people were dancing! A couple of women made half of the show dancing in front! I asked them afterwards if they were Brazilian. They weren't! One was the dance teacher and the other had been taking classes for over a year. Talked with one of the guys from the band. Turned out out of the whole group only one is Brazilian and he wasn't there tonight. Isn't it ironic?! So much for a Brazilian lead... They just happen to have Brazilian hearts! I can relate to that... In many ways my own heart is of a different nationality than my real one.

The buffet was good, too. I'm a picky and unadventurous eater myself, so it's not really food I'd seek again, but it was OK on an empty tummy. And the lights in the garden are pretty at night.

I was almost gonna give up going 'cause I had a rough day. So glad I went, though! Many times you have to force yourself to do something and you end up having fun! It's kinda like marital sex - half of the time you don't feel like doing it, but then you get into it...
