I should have added this to my last post, but I do have one more question. For those of you who might know, is there a neighborhood or area in Tucson that is somewhat equivalent to:

Rice Village or West University in Houston, TX; or
The Summit/Grand/Macalester area of St. Paul, MN; or
The Uptown/Garden District area of New Orleans near Tulane and Loyola?

These are the neighborhoods we've lived in in the past and we'd love to find something similar in the Tucson area.

Thanks in advance,
Stacey

There really isn't anything equivalent. Its the Southwest. Its different.

Newer - You could try a community like Civano or Sierra Morado?

Established - More central you might like Sam Hughes or Winterhaven?

as Ru said, the Sam Hughes neighborhood may be what you want....I only know the Garden District of NOLA and vaguely remember the area around Rice in Houston....

it's much smaller than the Garden District and the houses aren't quite as big and are on small lots, but if you want a nice 'hood next to the UA (sounds like what you want), Sam Hughes is the only choice.....3rd, 4th, and 5th Sts E of Campbell are the nicest parts of SH....watch out for driving restrictions on 3rd St..... prices are about $350K to $1M+

Eric & Stacey,

There aren't many neighborhoods in Tucson that you have discribed. The Rita Ranch area is a great family neighborhood with the best schools in Tucson. The Vail school district speaks for itself. The Sam Hughes district is pricey and you have to maintain your house within their standards. You may want to stay on the east side due to the minimal crime activity. I hope this helps your both with finding a great area to live in.

Thanks
Michael
