I'm 18, male, African-American, and I'll most likely end up in a 2-year college in the city.

You'll want to avoid living around Oracle, which is a corridor for property crime and theft.

News Flash, Oracle is much nicer as you go north!

I agree with Just Me. I think Oracle is okay north of River and just gets better as you go north. I live off of Oracle and there's very little crime in my neighborhood with the most serious being shoplifting.

If it were me, I'd stay away from anything in the southern part of Tucson. East, North, mostly just fine. If you tell us where you're thinking of going to school and where you'd likely be thinking of living, we can be more helpful as it's kind of difficult to be specific to a general question. :-)

I live in a condo complex on Stone between Prince and Roger. This is a high drug area, but I mostly feel safe because the violence is mostly between the various gangs for the control of the market. Anyways, I still get woken up every night by sirens and there are a bunch of shady people walking around at mostly all times of the day.

Probably U of A or Pima CC are the colleges I plan on going to.

Great point, Just me . . .

As with many, if not all, streets in Tucson . . . broad "no no's" will not work. Once Oracle Road crosses River Road heading North, the entire picture changes. Even Miracle Mile has improved tremendously down by the freeway since the Tucson Police Department opened their big complex. Not enough I would consider living there but definitely improved.

There's no perfect solution or perfect area, however, I believe a better way to list "avoids" is by areas or neighborhoods.

Streets are way too long and you can't really say a particular street is bad. Another glaring example of a street you don't wanna live on is 29th St. - unless it's East at least of Wilmot.

I found East 29th Street on Google Earth, is that the street I want to avoid?

Yes, until it reaches at least Wilmot, but you wouldn't want to go any farther East if you'd be at U of A or PCC, unless your classes are at PCC East, which is unlikely.
