Hello everyone,

I'm moving to Tucson and have been thinking about where to find an place to live. I heard that Catalina foothills is a good place but it seems to be missing from the crime statistics (including the map on Arizona daily star website). Does it mean it is really much safer, or is it just not included there? Where can I find out more about their crime statistics then?

I guess the same applies to the Oro Valley area...

Thanks

The Arizona Daily Star says below every crime map that it prints that it only includes incidents from the city limits of Tucson. Neither Catalina Foothills nor Oro Valley is inside the city limits of Tucson, so they are not included in the Star's crime map and would not be included in any official crime statistics that you read for the city of Tucson.

Catalina Foothills is an unincorporated part of Pima County, which is to say that it's not part of any city. So the only official crime statistics for it would be part of what's reported for the whole county. Pima County might break down crime statistics by area, but you'd have to do more research to find out. The Pima County Sheriff's website would be a good place to start.

Oro Valley actually is an incorporated city. So you could find crime statistics for anything that happens within its city limits. Just do some research online, starting with the Oro Valley city website.

To address your major concern, Catalina Foothills and Oro Valley do have less crime than Tucson because both are newer and more affluent areas than most of what's in the Tucson city limits.

As mentioned by the other posters, no those crime stats are not included in the Tucson figures. This site (City-Data), has extensive demographic statistics for all areas. More stats than the average person would need! Here's the links for Catalina Foothills and Oro Valley.

Did you move to the Catalina foothills??? If so, what has been your experience with crime??? Any input is greatly appreciated as we have to make a decision on a home by tomorrow. It is in the Alta Vista area.
Kind regards,
Christa

I live in the foothills and it's very safe here, nice and quiet and a very good atmosphere here. Very little crime. I like it here.

I really can't imagine crime being a big problem in the Catalina Foothills area. It's our area of choice to stay in when we visit and it ALWAYS feels extremely safe.
