We are moving to Tucson at the end of May and are looking for a pre-k program for our son. The schools I have found online primarily are linked to a religious entity or are an all day care type facility - neither of which seem to have a true pre-k program. If we need to settle for a nonsectarian pre-school with a program for 4 year olds we will but would really prefer a pre-k program. Are there any available out there?

I have also found (but not yet called) the Tucson Community School and Tucson Waldorf School - any feedback on either of these?

I fear that being so 'late' in the enrollment process that we may have missed the boat and have to compromise with where our son will go to school.

Also, the reason we are looking for a pre-k program is that I will be home with my son and he will be turning 5 in October - too late to start K and I really want to integrate him with kids his age quickly after moving. The reason we are looking for nonsectarian is that my husband and I were raised in different faiths and we don't practice formal religion of either in our home.

We will be living in Oro Valley and are looking forward to our move!

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Thanks for the response. When we came out to buy a house we stopped by Pusch Ridge Preschool which is where we may end up. It wasn't quite what we were looking for in that we want more of a traditional school where all of the kids get there at the same time, there is a curriculum and schedule for the morning. At Pusch Ridge the director indicated that most kids stayed all day and it was the exception for kids to leave at the half-day mark. We will keep looking and appreciate any responses!

This is not in Oro Valley but still not too far, just off of Ina Road. Greenfields Country Day School
I don't know if they have the half day or not though.

The top three preschools are International School of Tucson (also an elementary school), Tucson Community School (PK only) and Second Street School (PK only). All are near UA in midtown. Waldorf schools are christian schools, although they hide it. Google waldorf for more. Greenfields has deteriorated and may not even be open for much longer as the are losing students. We are at IST and cannot say enough good things.

Thanks for the feedback! I just returned from the whirlwind trip of east coast goodbyes and saw your post - I will be making calls this week!
