Originally from Oklahoma, after 32 years, we are moving 'home'. My hubby received his transfer orders to Catoosa. We should head that way in the next month or so. In the meantime, we are living in a camper.

After much research, I have gotten a real estate agent. If she pans out, at least that is settled. We shall see... If not, I will be back here :-)

We will be looking at rural property, 5 acres and up within 40 minutes of Catoosa. We don't want to be in the city and don't care if we are even near a city - large or small.

I have a few questions:

What rural areas do we need to avoid? I know it would be difficult to be very specific, but sometimes there is an area that is 'known' for less than ethical activities. Do you know of any?

Do we need to avoid any specific areas due to astronomically high utilities? We have one that everyone knows to avoid... just wondering...

Is DSL or some other form of fast internet access widely available in most areas?

Can you think of anything we should know in the real estate search? Suggestions?

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good campground around Tulsa? We know of the Keystone State park, but they have a limit on how long you can stay there. We need something more long term in case we don't find a house right away.

Looking forward to reading any suggestions. We are sure excited!

Gail

Long term camp grounds near Catoosa...........I assume you are talking about the port and not the casino area. If you are talking about the port facility, I would look for a campground between Claremore and Oolagah. Even better, go north from the port facility to "Keetonville" then east on highway 20 to Salina. about a 30 minute drive during good times and closer to an hour if you get caught in Claremore with the trains and traffic. But it is on the lake, there are several (I don't know of any specific parks) private campgrounds and rv parks. Some are right on the lake. (Lake Hudson).

For proximity to Catoosa, check the Claremore, Oolagah, Broken Arrow, and Inola areas. If that doesn't work, go further out to Locust Grove, Salina, Pryor, and Chouteau.

Oh yeah, welcome home.........

Definitely not the casino area... lol...

He will be working at a facility in Catoosa; neither the port or the casino. We don't necessarily need to stay in the Catoosa area. He does not mind commuting and will probably not go to work for a month or so anyway. Thanks for the ideas you gave us and the welcome. If you can think of any more ideas, just let me know.

Check out east Broken Arrow along Kenosha (71st Street). There is a lot of nice property out there east of the Creek Turnpike. You would have easy access to Catoosa. Broken Arrow is a nice, safe city! Welcome 'home'.
