How do I find the crime rate of various parts of Tulsa? I have a friend looking at a house at 21st and South Garnett.

The map central doesn't show any stats - it's just a map. Completely worthless. Try [mod]link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed[/mod]

21st and Garnett is a mostly Hispanic neighborhood. Pretty much right in the heart of what could be considered our "Little Mexico". It's not bad, but it's not good. I'm not worried about my safety during the day, but I wouldn't go walking around alone at night.

Do any of you have any feedback about the area of 12th st and Lewis? We are relocating to Tulsa in 2 weeks, and very nervous about finding a home online without seeing the neighborhood. Thank you!

That is a decent area. North of 11th on both sides of Lewis is not as good though. The neighborhood to the east is nice (Renaissance) and the neighborhoods south of the BA Expressway along Lewis are even nicer (Yorktown west of Lewis and Lewiston Garden to the east).

Crime rates will be higher here. It is a lower income neighborhood with large base of hispanics. While you can live there safely without problems, be aware "issues" could be just around the corner.

For instance I have a friend that lives down closer to 36th & Garnett. A few months ago, a drive-by happened in the neighborhood, striking people in the house literally one house to the left of his. A year or two before, the house across the street was raided and turned out to be drug dealers living there, all while cooking meth. Just a month or so ago, we were leaving one night (after cookout & playing cards) and caught the scent of weed in the air. I said something. The neighbor to his right, closed the windows and shut the door shortly after.

Personally I would avoid the area. I know my friend and his family are preparing their house to sell, so they can get out of the area.

Not too shabby. As someone noted, 11th Street is about as far north as I would go. You would be about 1 block south of the "cut-off" line. Being near Lewis, you will likely have a mix of college students (nearby University of Tulsa), older people, lower income and young families starting out.

If you can afford to go further south a few blocks to 15th, the area improves even more.

Agree with both of your suggestions. East of Hwy 169 is generally not a good area roughly north of 41st Street. There are some fantastic Mexican and Vietnamese restaurants and supermarkets in that part of town though.

Regarding 11th Street as the cut-off, I agree but only west of Delaware Ave. towards downtown. The neighborhoods north of 11th, east of TU and south of 244 to around Sheridan are decent neighborhoods with smaller, older but mostly well-kept houses and lots of trees. East of Sheridan is more iffy.

The neighborhoods west of TU are still hit and miss but are slowly gentrifying and changing for the better. There are some newly renovated houses near 4th & Lewis that are nice for instance and the area on the west side of the street is nicer than parts of the east, but then you have the neighborhood directly north of TU that is pretty decent. It is an interesting mix of some renovated houses, some vacant and rundown houses and some low income apartments where most of the crime is located, hence why the area is still rough even being so close to downtown directly to the west, Cherry Street to the south and TU to the east. You can't go wrong south of 11th in that area though, especially east of Utica towards Harvard (lots of young families moving into that area south of TU).
