Hi, all:
I have a huge craving for chicken fried steak, but have no clue where to get a good one. A neighbor recommended Marie Callender's... any opinions?

So where could I go for realloy YUMMY chicken fried steak in the Downtown / Brookside/ Midtown area? That's my regular roaming area so preferably centrally located. But I'd be willing to go anywhere west of Mingo and north of 71st if it's outstanding.

Yeah... I know it's a matter of taste, but I trust you.
Thanks in advance.

Try Trula in The Mayo Hotel downtown for an upscale take on it. The Brothers Houligan (15th and Lewis and 61st and Mingo) is good for a more traditional style, if you think that Chicken Fried Steak is traditional for an Irish Pub style restaurant.

If you have kids, Ollie's Station on the west side is good. And the restaurant is filled with model trains that run all over the place.

Chicken Fried Steak is really similar to Schnitzel, and the best of all is the Schnitzel at the Amish Kitchen at 31st and Harvard.

The best CFS in Tulsa is at Nelson's 1547 E 3rd St. They are world famous for their CFS, they were even in National Geographic Magazine. When they were downtown they were featured many times on CBS news when they would do that pulse on American thing on their morning show.

Marie Callender's has been closed for months and is no longer in Tulsa, and I would be hard pressed to say they have good CFS.

The Apple Barrel Cafe in Bixby has great chicken fried steak. Its one of the best I've tried in that area. Best in Jenks in my honest opinion is the cafe on main st with the Blue Door.......Cant remember the name. LOL

Thanks for the replies. There doesn't seem to be a firm consensus... but I think I'll try Nelson's (still open for business, I hope)

You really should learn how to make this basic yourself.
It's not hard at all.

Ollie's Station is great, especially without kids.

Try out Faye's Casual Cafe at 44th and Mingo on the North End of Gardner's Used Books. You won't be disappointed! They're closed on Sunday but open at 7 a.m. and serve Breakfast and Lunch M-S. You can get a 1/2 portion w/breakfast too!
